Discover The Houston Fire Museum

By Madison Sowell March 1, 2015

The Houston Fire Museum is a unique place to visit and learn about the history of Houston’s fire service through fun activities and exhibits. As well as offering a variety of displays and events, the Houston Fire Museum is also a great birthday event for children—you can host a junior firefighter themed part right at the historic 1899 Fire Station Number 7!

The Museum’s hours of operation are 10am to 4 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission for children (2-12 years old) is $3.00, senior tickets (65 and up) are $4.00, and adult tickets are $5.00.

Some of the current exhibits include:

The Antique Apparatus exhibit—this is a crowd favorite because guests can view the 1937 Chevrolet pumper along with an 1895 Ahrens Fox horse-drawn steamer and a 19th century hand powered pumper.

The Antique Firefighting Equipment exhibit—Go back in time and look at the museum’s collection of 18th to 20th century firefighter artifacts like real gear and more.

Coming up in March just in time for spring break, on the second Saturday of each month the museum will be opening up their children’s area to the public between the hours of 12 and 4 pm!

A great option to stay cool for the summertime is to plan a private guided tour with your family through the museum in order to learn more about the historic Fire Museum. The museum offers tours for groups between 10 and 30 people that last about half an hour. The staff members are eager to take you through the history and fun at a great pace to ensure that you don’t miss any interesting details and can get the most of your experience at the Houston Fire Museum.
