The Galveston Railroad Museum

By Syneetra Williams March 15, 2017

The railroad’s history is rich. It was the only way to move people, merchandise, and even cattle across the United States on land during the 19th and 20th centuries. In honor of the railroad’s legacy, the Galveston Railroad Museum is here to show the public what the rail system meant and still, means to Texas. They preserved precious moments in time so that visitors from everywhere can see and understand how important the railroad is in American culture. The next time you are in Galveston, consider stopping by and be sure to look for the “Ghosts of Travelers Past.” These manifestations are three-dimensional depictions of those who passed through the museum’s waiting room in 1932. Elliot and Ivan Schwartz of New York created the pieces in 1981. Also, check out the “Dining Cars of the American Railways from 1868-1970.”
