More Unique Things To Do In Houston With Kids

If you’ve hit all the basic spots in Houston a lot lately and need some new, unique things to do, we have a list of cool things to do in the Houston area that you might not have known were available!

 

See the Eclectic Menagerie Park- Down Highway 288 in front of the Texas Pipe and Supply Company is the Eclectic Menagerie Park. This park is filled with 26 steel landmarks that come in a variety of planes, spiders, and even a King Kong! 

 

Go to the Original Kolache Shoppe- Houston is famous for its mastery in the Czech pastry known as the kolache, and now there are so many places to get a kolache from, but have you gone to the Original Kolache Shoppe on Telephone Road? It’s been open since 1956, and they are masters at their craft. 

 

The National Museum of Funeral History—This may not sound like a lot of fun at first, but if your family loves history and fun facts, this unique museum and all of its displays is a great option. Learn about the history of funerals, see authentic historical items, and even learn about the funerals of presidents, popes, and celebrities. 

 

Kayak at the Buffalo Bayou- Buffalo Bayou has more to offer than fun scenery and picnic space—you can kayak in the bayou! You can take kayak tours based off of experience or test your skills on the three-mile stretch from Lost Lake to Allen’s Landing.

Have Some Fun at a Retro Skate Rink- Dairy Ashford Roller Rink is filled with funky lights, old school music, and even a disco ball so you can channel the good old days and have some silly fun skating around the bright colors. 

 

See Houston’s Bat Colony- If you go to Waugh Drive Bridge near Buffalo Bayou, you can see the bat colony that resides there—250 thousand Mexican free tailed bats! Sit in the bat observation deck and watch these bats fly overheard—it’s a breathtaking thing to witness! 

 

Go Shopping at Old Town Spring- If you love shopping, knick knacks, and a day out for some eclectic fun, you have to try Old Town Spring! Go for holiday shopping, decorations around the house, or just to go and see what you’ll find!
