Mi Cocina – Have You Tried It Yet?

Recently I spent an afternoon with friends and decided to try a restaurant never experienced before.  Why do I say experienced?  Because the afternoon turned out to be a unique culinary experience in Mexican food like none other.  I’m referring to my visit to Mi Cocina restaurant right here in The Woodlands on The Waterway.  From the moment I entered the establishment to my first bite I was enchanted by the innovative dining concept.  This upscale Tex-Mex restaurant uses only the freshest and highest quality ingredients and it’s represented by the eye appeal and taste of every bite.

My friends and I decided to dine family style and order several dishes so we could enjoy a variety of tastes.  For appetizers we started with Queso Blanco, not your normal salty yellow queso.  This was a blending of white American cheese melted to the smoothest consistency that ever rolled over my tongue.  And we paired this with Quacamole “Mexicano” which must have been made with over 4 avocados with minimum additions presented in the most unusual manner on palm leaves – gorgeous!  We shared a plate (the term plates used loosely as it was huge) of Tacos “De Brisket” that we all fought over, seriously!  I thought someone would get a fork into the back of their hand over this dish.  But then came my all-time favorite – Tamales Nuevos with Grilled Chicken and Poblano Cream.  Oh my – this was not your normal tamale wrapped neatly in a corn husk, oh no.  Plated on top of that corn husk was the enormous masa block seasoned to perfection, grilled chicken, accompaniments and topped with Poblano Cream. Oh yes, I could so dive into a bowl of that Poblano Cream alone, but combined it was outstanding!  Thinking we were too full to try dessert we polled ourselves and decided that since there were only a few of us we could share some dessert.  And what was it you asked?  Flan of course, and the best, smoothest and with real caramelized sugar (not imitation) on top and surrounding.  Yes, we ate it all and wish we had room for more – maybe next time.

We are definitely going back again and again and taking more friends to try other dishes that looked scrumptious on the menu.  Consider lunch, dinner or happy hour at Mi Cocina and I know you will fall in love with a Tex-Mex dining experience right here in our own backyard.  For more information check them out at http://www.micocinarestaurants.com/index.html
