My Stay At The Westin on The Woodlands Waterway

New 5 Star Restaurant CURRENT

By Julie A. September 29, 2016

I had wanted to stay at the new Westin on The Woodlands Waterway ever since I heard about the Westin coming to The Woodlands.  My dream was fulfilled this past weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed my time away.  Most of us think of Summer as the best time to take a vacation or Staycation but for me, my favorite time of the year is the Fall and the Westin provided the perfect Staycation option for me.

For starters, the Westin is right in the middle of all of the Waterway action.  You can get to many restaurants, movies and shopping on foot which is really nice.  Also, Live at Night, a free Saturday night concert series, is currently going on and you can easily walk right over to enjoy the live music.  Town Green is an easy 10-15 minute walk from the Westin and if you plan it right, you might be able to take advantage of some of the fall festivals and activities that are scheduled there.  And of course, it’s also about a 10 minute walk to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.  The new Westin really is situated in the middle of lots of great attractions.

When I walked into the Westin, I was immediately drawn to the custom lighting feature above and the sleek lines of the hotel along with the many windows.  The hotel feels very light, bright and airy while maintaining the “woodsy” feel of The Woodlands.

My room was amazing and very “Zen” inspired.  I was on a corner and had two walls filled with floor to ceiling windows and a view of the Waterway.  The bed was so comfortable and it was so nice to have time to relax.  You can click HERE to see my video tour of my room that I posted on our Facebook page.

After I checked in, a friend met me at SideBar, a very sleek sultry bar area for a nice glass of wine.  SideBar is very light and airy filled with windows and opens up to a huge patio and infinity edge pool overlooking the waterway.  It was so nice to have some Girl Time and just relax and not rush.  My whole stay at the Westin was very relaxed and Zen like.  As parents, it feels like we are always rushing. We rush to get the littles to school on time, rush to fix dinner and get homework done, rush to get them to practice and games on time.  Sometimes, it’s nice to just push pause and take a Me-Vacation.

I had the pleasure at dining that evening at the Westin’s 5 Star Restaurant – Current  run by rising star, Chef de Cuisine Nathan Friend. The Woodlands is a foodie paradise and Current did not disappoint.  Current only uses sustainable produce and all of the products are sourced in the United States with many coming directly from this area.  The Menu is Chef inspired, fresh and changes with the seasons.

I started with the Peach & Goat Cheese Salad which was a beautiful light salad.  The Goat Cheese paired nicely with the peaches and brought out the flavors of the salad.  The nuts brought a nice crunch to each bite.

After, I moved on to the main course of Wild Alaskan Halibut.  This was the BEST Halibut I have ever tasted!  It was paired with a crushed watermelon gazpacho which just tasted like a slice of summer!

For dessert, I just had to try the Candied Bacon Sundae.  This Sundae came with Toasted Almond Ice Cream, Carmel Sauce with candied bacon crumbled on top and a nice big slice of candied bacon.  Yummy!  The Sweet and Salty lovers perfect dessert.  I had never had anything like this and it made me want to do a Texas Two Step right there in the restaurant!  Love it.

My stay at the Westin on The Woodlands Waterway was both relaxing and rejuvenating.  Leave the kids with Grandma, grab the Hubby or your BFF and make plans to visit.
