Spring Break Activities at the Movies and Theatre For Kids

By Jorge Martinez March 9, 2016

Sneaking in a chance to catch a cool new film can be difficult for any busy family. The weekends could be filled with little league football or ballet recitals, and the week is just even worse. Spring Break could be the ultimate chance to go in, grab some buttery popcorn, and drink some fizzy soda. Going to the theater could also be a great way to escape some heat, if the sun decides to come out again. I enjoyed going to the theater to see the newest coolest kid’s movie that came out. They’re memories that I will hold onto forever. Below is a list of theaters, both cinematic and dramatic, that have some cool events for your little ones to enjoy during Spring Break.

Alley Theater

Mark Brown’s Around the World in 80 Days, adapted from the great Jules Verne adventure, will be directed by Mark Shanahan, who helmed the Alley’s phenomenally popular  production of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. In Around the World in 80 Days, fearless adventurer Phileas Fogg agrees to an outrageous wager that puts his life and fortune at risk, as he embarks on a grand journey to circle the globe in a race to beat the clock. Danger, romance and comic surprises abound as five actors portraying 42 characters traverse four continents in this classic adventure.  Currently Showing Until April 3rd.

Main Street Theater

The Main Street Theater is showing Junie B. Jones: The Musical as a Theater for Youth Special Event. It is adapted from the Junie B. Jones series of books by Barbara Park. The performance will be held at the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston on 3400 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002.

Special Spring Break Family Performances are from March 14 – 18, 2016 at 10:30 am. On Sunday, March 13, 2016 performances will be held at 1pm and 4pm. On Saturday, March 19, 2016 performances will be held at 1pm and 4pm. The show is recommended for Kindergarten and up, and children under the age of 3, including sleeping babies, are not allowed in the theater.

Alamo Draft House

Alamo Draft House follows the same concept that Movie Tavern does. They also offer a full menu to their visitors as they enjoy a movie on screen. Alamo Draft House: Vintage Park is located at 114 Vintage Park Blvd. They can be contacted at 713-715-4707.

During the week of Spring Break at the Vintage Park location, Alamo Draft House will be hosting a Teacher Appreciation week. Teachers can get free tickets to shows until 6pm every day of that week.

Saturday, March 12th: Batman The Movie all you can eat cereal party.

On March 13,14 & 15, Alamo Draft House will present its Miyazaki Madness show: Only Yesterday with English Dub and English Subtitled options. This animated film should captivate its audience, both big and small, with its visuals and animation.

Movie Tavern

Movie Tavern is the convenient merging of restaurant and movie theater. Families can enjoy a full meal while also watching a neat film.  They offer special showings, apart from regular show times, that could be tons of fun.  Start your day off right, and eat delicious breakfast food while watching a flick on the big screen. Breakfast and a flick is held at all locations, and only on Saturdays and Sundays exclusively for 9am shows. The movies that are played vary from week to week, but they are usually new releases.  Retro Cinema showcases classic films on the big screen every other Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30. On March 15 & 16, The Willowbrook Movie Tavern will be showing the 1966 Batman.
